Lucille is five years old.
I just have to say that being her mama for five years has been wonderful journey.
Infancy felt consuming for me. My days were consumed with being her mama, but over the years motherhood has slowly dissolved into something much more organic. With her, my days are complete and rich and full.
She teaches me about patience and dinosaurs. She gives me the opportunity to see the world from a different perspective. She is refreshingly unfiltered. She is carefree and joyful. She is unafraid of emotions and newness and challenges.
So many big things happened in her fifth year of life!
She got glasses and looks super stylish in them! She wore a eye patch for a couple hours daily between June and April to help strengthen her right eye. It worked beautifully and her sight improved significantly because of it. Her eye has maintained that improvement since we stopped patching.
She performed on stage two more times with her ballet class. She literally adores the spotlight.
In March, after a week of trial and error, she taught herself how to ride a bike. Michael and I reluctantly sat at the sidelines and quietly cheered her on.
We discovered that she is a thrill seeker. She tried out a bungee trampoline for the first time at the Renaissance Fair and was a natural. She started doing flips without being shown how and was hooked. She kept telling me how it was the best day of her life. She patiently waited in line to do it three more times.
She went on her first plane ride and thought it was awesome. She felt right at home on a plane full of passengers and chatty flight attendants. She proudly showed off her wings to everyone.
We took her to Disneyland. She was just enchanted by the whole experience. Her favorite part was meeting the characters. She had lengthy discussions with the princesses about planning a ball that they were all invited to and hugged Goofy so long that he had to sign her autograph book while she hugged him. She braved Hyperspace Mountain . She excitedly hopped in the front seat for Splash Mountain. Her favorite was the Buzz Lightyear ride, probably followed by Autotopia.
Her favorite color is still light pink, although she is also quite fond of black.
She said wants to be a famous dancer and a scientist when she grows up. She was having trouble picking one thing and was quite relieved when I told her she could be both.
Her favorite foods are eggs with spinach (she asks for this daily), carrots, vanilla ice cream, all fruits, salmon, pasta, Korean beef, sweet potatoes, and gyoza. She is pretty great about trying new foods, but she consistently dislikes white potatoes, spicy foods, and beans.
