I've done a little research about the local farmers market and good news. We're pretty close to one. :) It will be interesting to see what they offer. I know that at least one farm sells meat on Saturdays, so we're waiting until then to check it out. We're lucky that they are open Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturday.
I'm surprised that there are quite a few things I like about North Carolina. I mean, don't get me wrong, Washington is definitely my favorite place on the planet, but in North Carolina I get to watch fireflies at night. Michael's friend from Mississippi insists that they are only called lightning bugs. Ha. The lightning is awesome, and it rains enough here enough that I don't miss it. We live pretty close to an big county park with a walking trail, volley ball court, tennis courts, baseball fields, soccer fields, and picnic areas. All the wives/fiances/girlfriends of Michael's friends that I've met are very friendly and sweet. I feel so blessed to get such a relaxing break from school!
On a another note, any Glee fans out there? I really like glee, I used to just watch it because Fox offers full episodes for free online. Our favorite character is the adorable Emma Pillsbury played by Jayma Mays {picture from Eliza Magazine}:
Her wardrobe on the show is equally adorable as her character. It makes me want to buy an outfit like this {all from modcloth.com}:

I love all the ModCloth finds!
ReplyDeleteDid you watch Food, Inc? It's in our queue, but I haven't had the courage to watch it yet. We're phasing out pretty much all processed foods, and trying to buy local, as well. It's amazing how much easier it is to eat healthy when only shopping at natural food stores!
It such a good/healthy idea. And yeah like Katy said, when you shop at a natural food store, its hard to buy bad stuff. This lady who works with my mom is part of a vegetable co-op... They go every Saturday to some place, and farmers from around Pierce County put together a few flats of stuff. You don't get to choose what you get, but its all fresh and super good!!
ReplyDeleteAnd as for ModCloth..... umm amazing.
I would like to do a co-op, but I don't know for sure yet. Try this website to find farmer's markets and co-ops and whatnot: http://www.localharvest.org/
ReplyDeleteKaty - I did watch most of food inc. It had an interesting section about illegal imigrants. (On a totally unrelated subject I thought The Business of Being Born was a really worthwhile watch! And we both really enjoyed Beavers! The best animal film since Milo and Otis for sure.)
ReplyDeleteI'm not comitting to anything. I'd just like to make an effort. Completely giving up all processed foods unreasonable for us at this point. I'm still going to buy boxes of pasta and cereal. Being away from school, I've had a lot of time to think recently. Michael and I talk about becoming parents one day and it really puts issues like this into perspective.
