Ready for Visitors!

Last weekend I was getting my guest room ready for visitors. Which meant finally doing something with that lonely bed frame that's been hanging out in there.

Step One: Get slats for the box spring to rest on. I measured first, so that I would have the correct length and then I went to Lowe's. I wandered down to the lumber aisle and looked extremely lost. I always feel lost at Lowe's when I'm looking for something specific... like a three-prong dryer cord. Anyways, lumber aisle, I was trying to figure out what I needed exactly. I didn't want to just start throwing stuff in my cart. I finally got an employee's attention and he helped me. Actually he seemed pretty clueless, but I got six sturdy boards and he cut them down to size. They were ridiculously cheap, especially after the generous 10% discount that Lowe's offers.

Step two: Get a box spring and mattress! For this I headed to base, tax-free and cheap delivery. We've always had good experience with the delivery guys, too. Which is important. They delivered them on Monday and thankfully they offered to remove the plastic from them and set them up. Things like that aren't easy to do by yourself, I could have managed, but I was really happy they offered. Monday was a super stressful day for me... it was return of the water leak under the kitchen. I woke up to the garage flooded (again), the foundation soaked (again), the water meter spinning (again), and lucky me this time it was so bad that the front and backyard were flooding. The delivery guys were a bit concerned (or perhaps annoyed that their shoes were soaked? I didn't plan on having a moat around the house that day...), but I assured them that someone was on the way to help the situation. I'm going to have to go pick up the receipt from the plumbers at the rental office so I can get my water bill adjusted with my water company. Thank goodness they do that.

Step three: The best part! Picking out some bedding. I already had a comforter that needed a new duvet cover. So I picked out a duvet cover and sheets from Target, although I looked at a few other (overpriced) stores first. I love how it looks all set up!

Other than the bed, the room is pretty much empty, but I'm working on a budget here! And yes, that "bedside table" is a $7 TV table from Target. Hahaha. It serves its purpose though, right?  :)

The sheets are my favorite! They are soft organic cotton and dark purple. I mostly just got them because I liked the color.  :) I also have this cute mirror I found on clearance at Kirklands for $10 hanging up. It looks black in the picture, but its actually more of a rust/bronze color:

Well, that's all for now! My parents will be here tomorrow, so it is a good thing I got the room ready to go! I think I'm going to take a nap and then tackle the my to do list for the day. I just switched to our winter fleece sheets on the king bed... it is a little too hot here for them still, but they're soooo soft I couldn't help myself. :)
