Twenty Weeks

We're halfway there! Twenty weeks down and twenty weeks to go. I've heard a couple women complain that they don't tell you pregnancy lasts ten months, not nine months, until you've already got a bun in the oven. I supposed if you consider a month to be exactly four weeks long, then yes.... 40 weeks would mean ten months and everyone is lying to you. (Everyone isn't lying to you.) Consider that there are seven days in a week, but an average of 30 days in month:

40 weeks x 7 days/week= 280 days
9 months x 30 days/month = 270 days

So, maybe you could say that pregnancy lasts for nine months and ten days, but even that isn't quite true. You aren't technically pregnant the first two weeks (which I mentioned in my four week post). So, most women are pregnant for slightly less than 9 months. Ah... math, I love it.

Apart from the occasional off day, I've been feeling pretty darn good lately, and most importantly, I haven't thrown up in over a week! *pats self on the back* I've had quite the appetite and will definitely start gaining back the weight I lost soon enough. :) The baby is very active throughout the day and night; I'm sure that Michael will be able to feel the baby once he is home! I know he's excited for that.

I wanted to start taking good weekly photos at this point. So instead of getting back in bed for my mid-morning nap, I set up the camera and put on a shirt that would be stretchy over my belly. And I took pictures until the camera died.

I couldn't decide on a sweater. Or which way to stand. Or where to put my hands.

I discovered that my camera has three timer settings, each represented by a symbol. The first one is set so you can get a picture of you looking totally ridiculous while still running to where you wanted to stand for the photo. The second one is set so you'll get completely bored by the time it actually takes the picture and you'll forget to look happy. And the third, I figured out today, it a smile timer. It snaps pictures when it detects a person smiling! How clever and useful and slightly touchy, but it made the process way easier. I didn't mind deleting the ones where I had to totally cheese it up to make it work.

So, here is my official twenty week picture.

This has already been a long post, but I couldn't skip adding The Bump's fruit of the week. I mean, it is a cantaloupe for goodness sakes.
Talking about cantaloupe, has anyone been brave enough to buy one since the listeria outbreak? I was told to just avoid it and my midwife hasn't given me the go ahead yet. Evidently the CDC didn't declare the outbreak to be officially over until last month. You can read all the final details of the outbreak by clicking the link. Of course, I'm sure the cantaloupes that have been available to consumers over the past few months were as safe as any other produce at your grocery store.
